Nadia Nakai: “This is Just the Beginning” as Beyond Bragga Returns with Season 2

by Zaghrah Anthony

Nadia Nakai is back, and she’s ready to tell a bigger, bolder story. The rapper, fashion icon, and TV star is returning to screens with Season 2 of her hit reality show Nadia,  Beyond Bragga, set to premiere on Saturday, 6 September at 7:30pm on BET.

For fans who’ve followed her journey, this season promises more than glamour and beats—it promises vulnerability.

A More Honest Nadia

Speaking to The Citizen, Nadia explained that Season 2 gave her space to drop the armor. “What made me decide to open up even more this time around is just more of my dynamics around me. In Season 2 everybody got into their stride. They were comfortable, and that made it easier for me to be comfortable, too. We could all give our authentic selves as a collective.”

That authenticity won’t just play out on screen. It’s also woven into her music, with her new album, Braggacy, marking a departure from straight hip-hop into a more experimental soundscape.

Braggacy: A New Chapter in Sound

Nadia’s upcoming album reflects a fearless artist stepping beyond boundaries. “I’ve got three-step songs, an Afro-pop track, and even a house collaboration with Zion from Liquideep,” she said.

But beyond the sonic exploration, the album carries weight. It includes tributes to her late boyfriend, AKA, whose death shook South Africa’s music scene and left Nadia navigating grief in the public eye. “He inspired me to be more experimental,” she shared.

This blend of heartbreak and innovation might just make Braggacy her most personal project yet.

The One-Woman Show Dream

Season 2 also captures Nadia preparing for something she’s long dreamt of, a one-woman show. For her, it’s not just about performing; it’s about creating an experience.

“As an artist, you dream about creating your own stage the way you envision it. I’ve always struggled with doubt and talked myself out of it, but the day I do, it will be monumental for me.”

If her career so far is anything to go by, the show could mark a defining moment for her artistry.

From Beef to Sisterhood

Another highlight in Nadia’s journey is her collaboration with women in the industry. She recently dropped Juicy alongside Moozlie and Rouge, and more collabs with Moozlie and Ney the Bae are in the pipeline.

Her excitement is rooted in history. In the early days, she and Moozlie couldn’t collaborate due to industry beef between their camps, Nadia under Family Tree and Moozlie under Cash Time.

“Now that we’ve gotten over that, it’s been really exciting because I’m very much for female movement, female empowerment, and women working together,” Nadia said. “When women work together, we go all the way. There’s so much strength in collaboration.”

“Just the Beginning”

Despite the milestones, Nadia insists she’s only getting started. “This is not the full story. It’s just the beginning of a new chapter. There’s so much more to come. Women are resilient, and this is about overcoming hardships and pushing forward. So this is just the beginning.”

For South Africans tuning in, Season 2 of Beyond Bragga isn’t just reality TV. It’s a front-row seat to one of the country’s most dynamic artists stepping into her power on stage, in the studio, and in life.
