Nadia Jaftha shares heartbreaking goodbye to her “Pa” as fans rally around her

A love story interrupted by loss

For many South Africans, the past few months have been filled with celebrations, fresh starts, and hopeful plans for 2026. For Nadia Jaftha, it’s been all of that and something much heavier.

Just as she stepped into a new chapter marked by love and engagement, the Cape Town-born content creator has had to say goodbye to someone who helped shape her world: her grandfather, affectionately known as “Pa.”

In a deeply emotional Instagram post, Nadia confirmed his passing with a simple but powerful message: she’s going to miss him “so, so much.”

The man behind the memories

If you’ve followed Nadia for even a short time, you’ll know her content isn’t just about laughs, it’s about family.

From playful moments with her mom, Nawal Jaftha, to candid glimpses of home life, her platforms have always felt like an open invitation into her world. And in that world, her grandfather held a special place.

In fact, just days before his passing, she shared a TikTok featuring the two of them, a moment that now feels even more meaningful to those who watched it.

Her tribute montage, filled with laughter, warmth, and quiet affection, painted a picture of a man who wasn’t just family, he was part of the story her followers had come to love.

A community that feels the loss too

The response online was immediate and overwhelming.

Scroll through the comments, and you’ll find thousands of messages, not just from fans, but from people who felt like they knew “Pa” through the screen.

Messages poured in offering strength, prayers, and gratitude for the memories shared. Some spoke about how his presence brought joy to their timelines, while others simply thanked Nadia for letting them witness such a genuine bond.

Media personality Moshe Ndiki was among those who reached out publicly, sending love during what is clearly a painful time.

It’s a reminder of something uniquely South African about online spaces, when someone opens their life to the public in an authentic way, the support in difficult moments often feels just as real.

Grief in the middle of new beginnings

What makes this loss particularly poignant is the timing.

In late 2025, Nadia shared the news of her engagement to her partner, Reece Meyer, a milestone that had followers celebrating alongside her after a romantic Bali proposal.

Now, that joy sits side by side with grief.

It’s a feeling many can relate to but few can articulate: the strange, quiet space where happiness and heartbreak coexist. The knowledge that someone who should have been there for the next chapter won’t be.

From what Nadia has shared over the years, her grandfather would have been right at the centre of those future celebrations — laughing, cooking, and making memories.

More than an influencer

Beyond the personal loss, Nadia’s story resonates because of who she is to many South Africans.

She’s not just a content creator — she’s a familiar face who built her platform on humour, relatability, and strong family ties. From co-founding ventures like Ace Labs and The Smile Bar to appearing in local films like Who’s My Daddy?, her journey has always felt grounded in real life, not just curated moments.

And that’s why this moment hits differently.

Because when someone like Nadia shares grief, it doesn’t feel distant or performative — it feels human.

Holding onto the laughter

If there’s one thing that stands out from the flood of messages, it’s this: people remember the joy.

The laughter. The jokes. The small, everyday interactions that somehow became meaningful to thousands watching from their phones.

In sharing those pieces of her life, Nadia gave her followers something rare — a sense of connection. And now, in her grief, that same community is showing up for her.

Because while goodbyes are never easy, especially to someone so deeply loved, the memories — the real ones — tend to linger the longest.
