One of mzansi’s long standing soapie, Muvhango has announced that it will call its last curtain call soon.
Produced by Word of Mouth Productions, Duma kaNdlovu’s brain child Muvhango has kept viewers glued on screens from 1997, with its rich storyline in Tshivenda showcasing their way of life. And bringing to life the much loved characters, such as Thandaza, James, Doris, Chief Azwindini, Edward, KK and many others.
Muvhango took to their Instagram page to announce that this will be the last season.
“We want you to hear it from us first. Okay, that’s a wrap. But don’t worry — we’re still here for the next three months! We’ll be treating you to a nostalgic ride from 1997 to 2025, plus exclusive behind-the-scenes moments with the amazing crew who brought Muvhango to life,” read the caption.
Muvhango issued a statement delving deep into the inception of the soapie.
“The soapie was introduced at the pivotal period, when South Africa was transforming, and most vernacular dramas at the time were in the majority dialects. Tshivenda was seen as a minority language, and the show was a vehicle to showcase the culture,” read the statement.
Muvhango creator and executive producer, Duma said: “Muvhango gave an opportunity to an ignored language that has become one of the most celebrated languages in South Africa now. It has been a privilege and an honour to create memories on television where the marginalised languages were at the centre of them all,” he said.
