Musicians kidnapped and held at gunpoint for their music

Popular Amapiano musicians Jazzworx and G.L. CeeJay have broken their silence after a harrowing kidnapping ordeal that saw them abducted from their home and held overnight by armed assailants.

The duo, whose real names are Kamohelo Monese and Gobokweone Lekganyane, were ambushed at their residence in Klippoortjie, Germiston, in the early hours of Sunday, 3 August.

According to their team, the intruders stormed into the property around midnight, holding the musicians at gunpoint. They made off with valuable studio equipment — including hard drives containing unreleased music — and later forced the pair into a vehicle before fleeing the scene.

In a heartfelt public statement, Jazzworx and G.L. CeeJay thanked law enforcement for their swift response, as well as fans who expressed concern.

“We are grateful to inform you that we were safely found and rescued early yesterday. We are currently receiving medical attention and support as we begin the process of healing physically, emotionally, and psychologically,” the statement read.

They added that while the trauma of the event will take time to process, they remain deeply moved by the support shown by their community.

“This experience, while profoundly shocking, has also reminded us of the strength and compassion that surrounds us.”

The artists’ manager, Sandile Moloane, said the attack was clearly targeted. According to him, the assailants specifically demanded the computer containing the duo’s music and recordings.

“They intentionally made it clear that they want the studio and what is in the computer,” Moloane told reporters, suggesting the motive may have extended beyond simple theft, reported Central News.

According to News24 ,Gauteng police have since confirmed they are investigating a case of house robbery and kidnapping. No arrests have been made yet, but a manhunt is underway.

The artists said they managed to capture an image of one of the attackers, which will be handed over to authorities to assist the investigation.
