Msaki and Sun-El drop new single

by Dideka Njemla

The East London-born music composer, song writer and singer Msaki has touched our hearts with her melody and meaningful lyrics.

Some people have even gone further and said that if we were to listen attentively to Msaki’s heartfelt lyrics, one would note that they were rather prayers for the nation than they were dance tunes.

Bringing these uplifting tunes to the nation alongside Msaki is South African deejay, music producer and songwriter Sun-El Musician. This duo released their first powerful and deeply-felt song Ubomi abumanga together in 2020.

Mzansi music lovers were moved by this song as it captured many hearts through the genuine meaning behind the lyrics.

The duo did it again with their song titled Bestfriend in 2021.

Since then, Msaki had gone quiet and the nation thought she had been creating her magic in the studio. However, it came as a huge shock when she publicly announced that she’d be taking a break from the music industry scenes for a bit.

When the two announced they would be dropping a new single together, music lovers were pleased as it had been a long while since we were last graced by Msaki’s heartwarming lyrics and voice.

Their new single is titled Amandla.

Prior to the duo dropping the song, Msaki captioned her post:

“Amandla means power in Xhosa and Zulu. This song, however, is about feeling disempowered and asking for release.”

Providing us with insight of the message behind the song, Msaki shared:

“The song is also about a moment of surrender, an underlying forgiveness and understanding in the middle of that powerlessness. The real power is in the surrender that truth always prevails even when it’s delayed.”

Upon elaborating on a line in the song, she further explained, “The line ‘uzundithethele xa imeko ivuma’ translates to ‘Speak the truth on my behalf when the circumstances allow you.'”

A supporter shared how delighted she’d been for the return of Msaki and said, “My love is back??❤️.”

With a response that many were not anticipating, Msaki wrote, “I am not, unfortunately. There are just many songs to share 🙂 and I said I would do that.”

The single Amandla is out now.
