“It’s Never Too Early,” Mr Price Home’s Christmas Décor Sparks Excitement in SA

It’s only mid-September, but a Cape Town lifestyle creator has sparked festive fever early. Hayley Malan shared a video showing Mr Price Home at Canal Walk already stocking Christmas decorations, complete with sparkle, classic colours, and holiday spirit. And people online are thrilled.

Deck the Halls with Red, White and Green

What’s on the shelves already? Think Christmas crackers, tree ornaments, festive pillows, glowing projectors, decorative jars and glass vases, and tables draped in Christmas tablecloths. The usual holiday suspects, but coming sooner than many anticipated. Hayley captured all of this in a TikTok video posted on 17 September 2025, showing how the store has turned a corner of Canal Walk into a holiday display zone.

“It’s Never Too Early” Becomes the Mood

Reaction online was immediate. Some people teased that Mr Price has skipped Halloween entirely. Others embraced the early drop, saying it helps spread cost and allows more time to plan. One user laughed about last year’s decor now feeling dull next to what’s new. Another one made the economic case: buying early in this economy can make sense.

Some reacted with scepticism too. A few said that white Christmas themes (snowflakes, reindeer, and sleigh motifs) feel out of place when you live in a climate like South Africa’s. Still, the majority seem happy with the choice: “Yes, it’s only September, but I’m here for it,” one commenter said.

Why This Early Noel Matters More Than You Think

Putting up Christmas decor in September is more than just saving up style points. In times when budgets are tight, spreading costs makes planning easier. When people see decorations and festive items early, it allows them to buy in stages rather than blow the budget in December.

Culturally, there’s also something comforting in the ritual of preparation. Even though Christmas is rooted in December, the build-up is part of what people love: the lights, the colours, the promise of joy. For many South Africans, festive decor isn’t just decoration; it’s a touchstone of tradition, childhood memories, and giving things meaning.

Shopping Early: Savvy Move or Seasonal Overkill?

There’s a fine line. Some shoppers worry early displays drain the specialness of the holiday season. Others feel it gives more breathing room and avoids long December queues. In a retail market where demand surges and stock runs out, early buying is becoming a tactic.

Mr Price Home seems to be tapping into that trend. Their Christmas section was already live on their website too, with Santa-shaped cushions, snow globes, pet blankets, and more curated items that signal the holiday season.

Yes, it’s early. But you know what? Maybe that’s OK. The early festive decorations might serve as a welcome dash of warmth in the year. They allow people to plan, save, and enjoy the season without the last-minute rush. And seeing those shelves decked out in joy? That might just be the little moment of happiness we all need now.
