Mona Monyane opens up about heartbreak and losing her children

Actress Mona Monyane recently shared the reasons behind her divorce with fellow actor, Khulu Skhenjana on Untied.

Speaking to Relebogile Mabotja, she delved deep into the tragic loss of her children, a fire that destroyed her family home, and the end of her marriage.

In 2017, the actress and her husband were blessed with their first born baby; seven months later Mona fell pregnant again. However, their second baby passed away shortly after birth.

Khulu, Mona and their first born moved to Mona’s family home due to financial struggles. The former Muvhango actress told Relebogile that she had lost herself in her marriage.

“That was the most profoundly painful thing God has ever done to me, but it was necessary. I was going to die in that marriage. I had lost myself to the point where I couldn’t recognise who I was when I looked in the mirror. My dreams were gone. I didn’t want to act anymore; I thought I had no talent,” she said.

After sharing what she endured in her marriage, Mona revealed that they kept trying to have more babies; unfortunately they had a miscarriage.

Like many other married women, she tried her best to fight for and salvage her marriage.

“I wanted to save my marriage. I didn’t want to raise my baby alone, and I didn’t want to have a single-parent household. And that’s what you do in marriage, you fight through the hard stuff.”

The actress further revealed that the last straw for her was when her family home burnt to ashes, a few months after the loss of her babies.

“There were just circumstances around that fire that didn’t make sense to me… It was also how it was handled — when you don’t feel supported even in times like that. I cannot keep making excuses for not receiving what I desire out of this marriage,” she shared.

In 2020 the pair parted ways, after four years of marriage.
