The streets of South Africa are alive with rhythm and raw energy as the much-anticipated Red Bull Dance Your Style 2025 kicks into high gear.

Dancers from all corners of the nation are stepping onto the stage to showcase their unique styles and vie for the prestigious title of national street dance champion, ultimately eyeing their chance to represent South Africa on a global platform.

Last weekend, the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town became the vibrant backdrop for an extraordinary convergence of talent, where the first regional champion was crowned.

Aimsley Fortuin, a 22-year-old all-styler from Tafelsig, Mitchell’s Plain, claimed victory in an electrifying atmosphere filled with enthusiastic supporters. Known for his dynamic freestyle moves, Fortuin expressed his delight at finally participating after years of being held back by life’s demands.

“It was amazing! Seeing everyone, the South Africans from all the nations all crowded here and, most importantly, seeing my family in the audience,” he recounted, beaming with pride.

For Fortuin, this victory not only represents personal triumph but also a significant step towards fulfilling a lifelong dream. As he prepared for the national finals, he passionately vowed, “I want to bring my own style, my heart, my feelings, my spirit, that I always wanted to bring to the world and my family! I’m here to give it my all.”

As part of a nationwide search for the best in street dance, the competition format of Red Bull Dance Your Style distinguishes itself by empowering the audience to determine the winners.

This communal participation adds a layer of excitement and authenticity to every battle, transforming each performance into a high-octane display of creativity and passion.

Dancers embody a range of styles, from bacardi to break-dancing, with each showcasing their flair live on stage.

The regional qualifiers are not yet concluded, with several cities still to host their own battles. Upcoming events are scheduled as follows:

  • 12th July: Gqeberha
  • 13th July: Johannesburg
  • 19th July: Bloemfontein
  • 20th July: Durban
  • 30th August: Cape Town (National Final)

In Cape Town, Aimsley Fortuin has now secured his place in the national finale, where the best dancers from all regions will compete for the ultimate title. The significance of this accolade is enormous, as the national champion will earn the right to represent South Africa at the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final 2025, set to take place in Los Angeles on 11 October 2025.

Excitement is building for this pinnacle event, known for its unique one-on-one mixed-style battles, where the audience decides the champion.
