It’s been over two decades since Miss South Africa aired on SABC 3, but now it’s back! The grand finale of the pageant will be broadcast live on Sunday 13 August following a five-part series, Crown Chasers, which will document the journey leading up to the final moment Miss South Africa 2023 is crowned.

23 years ago on December 11, the nation stayed glued to their televisions as 1999’s Miss South Africa, Heather Hamilton hailing from KZN, was crowned. Now, over two decades later, the grand finale of the long-running pageant will be broadcast live on SABC3 from Sun International’s SunBet Arena at Time Square in Pretoria on Sunday, August 13.

The grand finale will follow a five-part series, Crown Chasers, giving viewers an inside glimpse at what the journey of becoming Miss South Africa entails, and who the women in line for the crown are. The series will be broadcast live every Sunday at 16:00 on SABC3 starting on July 9, leading up to the crowning of Miss South Africa 2023.

As quoted by Algoa FM, Lala Tuku, Head of Local Productions at the SABC, says:

“The Miss South Africa title carries with it a lot of hope, aspirations and most importantly, it enables young women from all backgrounds to showcase the power of what one can achieve with the right mindset”

“This is a showcase of intelligent, passionate and confident young women who are carving various paths towards success.”

“To the Miss South Africa finalists, open up new worlds, transcend borders and be the best ambassadors you can be for South Africa,” she said, going on to emphasise that the SABC remains the home of events of national importance.”

Catch the first episode of Crown Chasers on Sunday July 9th by tuning into SABC3 at 16h00.

The series will air over 5 weeks every Sunday on SABC3, leading up to the finale of Miss South Africa 2023 which will be broadcast live on 13 August at 16:00, SABC3. Don’t miss out!
