Mihlali Ndamase marks one month of sobriety

by Johana Mukandila

Award winning content creator and influencer Mihlali Ndamase marks 1 month of being sober.

Not too long ago the influencer shared with her fans that she had stopped drinking alcohol.

“I’m celebrating 30 days sober. I did it. I’m at my happiest, peak of my productivity and healthiest alcohol free. I haven’t felt this good in months. This has been by far the best decision I’ve made for my life,” she wrote on her Instagram story.

However, after disclosing that she has been 30 days sober the content creator caused an uproar amongst social media users after she was seen at Konka in Soweto. This caused social media users to question her sobriety.

“When one shares niyadika [you become irritating], and when one stops sharing, they’re no longer relatable,” she wrote.

“I shared something to encourage those who would like to take the same route as me, those with an unhealthy relationship with substances and who felt like they can’t quit.”

“It’s either you take something from my story or you ignore it if it doesn’t apply to you.”

The content creator did not allow for social media trolls get the best of her as she continued to speak on her sobriety journey. She recently appeared on L-Tido’s podcast, while speaking to the podcaster Mihlali revealed that it has been one month since she has been sober.

Mihlali said the following while speaking on L-Tido’s podcast:

“And you know, I never had the habit of blacking out. Sana, I started blacking out recently and that’s when I was like- And not like blacking out, passing out. I was like, I’m a functioning drunk. So, I can be very lit and… And someone would say, “No, but you seemed fine…”

She also talked about her relationship with Leeroy Sidambe, and how being in a relationship with leeroy caused her to go sober.

“Well, I mean because obviously he is not divorced, like, legally… But- Yes, it’s a long process (speaking on the divorce proceedings), and I mean, we’ve seen celebrities go through… We’ve seen people who are- have filed for divorce or whatever, who do move on with their lives or get into relationships or whatever. That’s the situation my partner and I are in…”
