‘Me and Ox were living our best life’ – Siya on visiting Liverpool friends with Bok teammate

It is often said that no man is an Island, and Springbok captain Siya Kolisi’s recent trip to the United Kingdom has proven that this could not be any truer.

Since leading the national rugby team to two successive Rugby World Cup titles, it is safe to say that the Bok number 6 has become somewhat of a global rockstar.

Brand deals, ambassadorial opportunities, and not to mention the countless international celebrities who are now very well acquainted with the father of two.

When he is not having a good time with tennis legend Roger Federer, he can often be spotted hanging out with the coach and players of the club he loves the second most after the Springboks – the English football team Liverpool.

Siya and the Liverpool squad were first introduced to one another shortly after winning his first-ever World Cup in 2019.

This was all thanks to the team’s former manager, Jurgen Klopp, who met Siya during his time in Cape Town and later invited him to meet the team the next time he visited England.

To date the friendship has been going from strength to strength – so much so that during the Durban franchise, the Sharks, who Siya plays for toured Europe, he made sure to take another Bok teammate along the experience.

Earlier this year he and prop, Ox Nche were spotted attending a premier league match, and later also met up with players and received a tour of the stadium by none other than Virgil van Dyk.

In a recent interview with Supersport, Siya opened up about what it was like having Ox along the ride.

“Me and Ox were living our best life.”

“Virgil took us downstairs so he could walk and touch the roof of the tunnel. It was really nice, it was an amazing experience.

“It is cool to share these moments together. I always tell people, ‘You don’t want to do all of this stuff by yourself. If you can, take your mates with you.’ It was awesome to see how happy Ox was.”
