Chief creative director of MaXhosa knitwear brand, Laduma Ngxokolo is set to make history as he gears up for the official opening of his luxury clothing brand store in New York.

MaXhosa New York is located in the heart of the city, on the lower side of the Soho district, at No.325 on Canal Street. The shop will open its doors for the first time on the 15th of this month (June), running from 9 am to 7 pm.

This big bold move by Laduma is truly a dream come true for the Gqeberha-born creative. He has had his garments worn by big names such as former US first lady Michelle Obama and by cast members of the international movie Coming to America 2.

The creative designer first announced the store opening sometime last year, sharing in a post on his social media that the store would open in February this year:

“@MAXHOSA will have a new home in New York on Feb. 24, on the lower side of the Soho district. To each and every one that supported us since day 1, to date, and planning to support us in the future, raise your glasses and celebrate this big moment with us, THANK YOU!”

Recently, the father of one shared an article from an interview he did with the New York Post, a New York-based newspaper.

In the interview with the paper, the creative director shared that the brand had taken time to specifically curate the space to fit New Yorkers.

When asked why he thought MaXhosa deserved to be in New York, Laduma responded:

“We have taken extra care in everything that we do. which is what I believe the true definition of luxury should be. New York is on the top of the world and we are in New York as a stepping stone for us to be on top of the world.”
