MaWhoo Opens Up About Feud With Naledi Aphiwe: “It Got Personal”

by Zaghrah Anthony

When Harmony Turns to Headlines: MaWhoo Speaks Out

For fans of South Africa’s amapiano scene, the feud between MaWhoo and Naledi Aphiwe has been whispered about for months. Now, the Ngilimele hitmaker has broken her silence, sharing her side of the story during a heartfelt interview with Selbeyonce on Gagasi FM.

MaWhoo’s relationship with Naledi, who rose to fame with her hit Romeo and Juliet, reportedly started positively, with collaboration plans already in motion. But tensions escalated after an incident involving MaWhoo’s sister, Amahle, at a live event in Johannesburg.

The Incident That Sparked Tension

According to MaWhoo, the drama unfolded when her sister, Amahle, booked both artists to perform. Naledi allegedly arrived with 12 people instead of the agreed three, none of whom had purchased tickets. Attempts to resolve the situation quickly spiralled, culminating in a dispute over refunds.

“She insulted my sister and accused me of things I didn’t do,” MaWhoo revealed. “It was unexpected and deeply personal. I was shocked, and I felt I had to step back because things were escalating.”

The singer explained that Naledi initially sought guidance on navigating the music industry but later turned critical, with rumours spreading that she spoke badly about MaWhoo behind her back. The clash was not just professional—it touched family, making the fallout even more emotional.

Social Media Reacts: Fans Pick Sides

The interview ignited a flurry of reactions online. Some fans questioned MaWhoo’s account, calling it exaggerated, while others praised her honesty. On X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, hashtags and comment threads exploded as supporters dissected the timeline and argued over the narrative.

“I love her, I’m being honest. I don’t have a problem with her, but when someone swears at you unexpectedly, it can be confusing,” MaWhoo said. She also hinted at outside influence: “Most of the time, I ignore people. I feel like there’s a team behind her telling her to disrespect me just to trend.”

Meanwhile, Naledi Aphiwe responded subtly through a TikTok clip, posting a message about the power of silence without directly naming MaWhoo. Fans were quick to speculate that the comment was a reference to the controversy, fueling online debates further.

A Cautionary Tale in the Amapiano Scene

This feud highlights how personal and professional boundaries can blur in South Africa’s tightly-knit music industry. Collaborations that begin with promise can quickly sour when miscommunication, family involvement, and public scrutiny collide.

For now, MaWhoo seems determined to focus on her music while keeping her boundaries intact, a reminder to fans that even amid glitz, glamour, and sold-out shows, the human side of artists often remains vulnerable.

As the amapiano scene continues to grow, this drama underscores a larger truth: behind every hit and trending song, there’s a story—and sometimes, it’s messy.
