Life goes on for former Bafana Bafana Matthew Booth and Bongani Mthombeni as the two are now passionate about making a big impact in the world of football.
After initially denying allegations that they were having an affair, the two have recently been public about their romantic relationship following their divorce from their respective spouses.
Now that all is out in the open, the loving couple have officially put their heads together to come up with a brand new business venture called Booth Africa.
The news was first shared by sports and radio presenter Robert Marawa who took to social media to announce that the couple would be on his show to share more about the initiative.
In their interview with the renowned presenter, Bongani explained that the business has been a work in progress for quite some time, after first being the brainchild of Matthew who at the time had his own trust in helping the less privileged.
“Then just over two years ago we decided to expand the offerings of the trust to address the gaps in football. So that has been our mandate and our mission and vision, and we are doing it throughout the continent.”
She further emphasised that they were targeting three main gaps, the first being youth football development, the second focusing on infrastructure development and a third being livelihood restorations for football legends by keeping them active in the game after they retired.
The initiative comes at a time that Matthew’s former teammate, the retired footballer Patrick “Ace” Mbuthu has struggled with the loss of his vision and inability to pay for proper medical care to attend to his impairment.
Recently, Booth Africa held a fundraising tournament called Clash of Legends where South African legends played against Botswana football legends. The proceeds of the event were to assist Patrick towards recovery.

Speaking to news publication TimesLive Bongani added: “It fills us with immense pride to be able to make a meaningful contribution to society while advancing football in Africa. It’s important that we make a tangible impact, change lives and give back to those who selflessly gave themselves.”
