This weekend South African expatriates living in Australia will be treated to a mzansi spectacle. This comes after a number of our country’s top talents across the sports and entertainment scene are set to give their fellow countrymen a taste of home.

Rugby: Springboks vs Australia

This Saturday marks the second of two games where the double World Cup champions the Springboks will play against Australia in hopes of maintaining their dominance and winning the Rugby Championship.

Last weekend the Boks played against the Wallabies in Suncorp where they dominated the home team in front of a sold-out stadium, many of who ironically were South African fans.

With the second leg of the competition moving to Perth where there is reported to be a higher number of South Africans, the atmosphere is expected to be nothing less than spectacular.

UFC: Dricus du Plessis vs Israel Adesanya

While the Springbok versus Australia rugby match is expected to keep fans entertained on Saturday, Sunday will be a day for the fighters. This comes as the South African fighter Dricus du Plessis will be defending his World Middleweight belt against the Nigerian-born New Zealander Israel Adesanya.

Dricus is the very first South African to win the monumental title after defeating the American Sean Strickland earlier this year. Numerous reports suggest that if Dricus is successful, the UFC will host its next event in South Africa. This is something Cape Town mayor Geordin-Hill Lewis is all too excited about.

Furthermore, in an interview with the Cape Town-based radio station KFM on Tuesday, Dricus revealed he will be escorted by his Springbok heroes Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth for Sunday’s match.

Stand-up Comedy

In the entertainment scene, veteran comedians Marc Lottering and Alfred Adriaan have been doing all they can to fill people’s bellies with laughter.

The duo has been sharing various snippets of the experience on Instagram.

This week Marc was interviewed by the news and entertainment publication, Citizen, where he was asked how it feels to be in Australia along with the Springboks and Dricus.

To this, he responded: “It’s purely coincidental that we are here with Dricus and the Bokke! Ag, I guess champions attract Champions.”
