Mandla Ngcongwane told TimesLive that he would like to bring Carlo onto his team. He noted that he had previously worked with Carlo, describing him as a great actor and expressing his willingness to support him.
Carlo, best known for his role as Duke Ngcobo on Backstage, revealed in an emotional Facebook post that he’s been unemployed for three years and asked for financial assistance as previous donations had dried up.
“I’m hoping the winter of discontent is nearing its end,” he shared, holding onto hope despite the challenges he faces.
Earlier this year, reports revealed that Carlo, once a prominent figure in TV and film, was surviving on the Social Relief of Distress Grant of just R350.
Public reactions to his situation have been mixed, and in an interview with radio host Bongani Bingwa on 702, the former Generations star admitted that he feels ashamed.
In last week’s interview, Carlo said: “I am so uncomfortable, and I’m sorry for upsetting some… I had to [come forward].”
He also reflected on his past reluctance to network before the rise of social media, offering some advice: “You cannot be stranded on an island thinking your lucky stars are going to be sparkling… you have to network.”
