In an exclusive interview with Showmax, Mampho Brescia delves into her captivating new role as Zam, the owner of NubiaBlaq—a front for an escort agency—in the highly anticipated series Soft Life.

Mampho describes Zam as a “hustler,” saying, “She’s created her world to succeed and thrive, and she’ll do whatever it takes to sustain the lifestyle that she wants. She’s a bit sordid and morally corrupt.”

According to Showmax, Soft Life is a captivating 13-episode drama that explores themes of duality and secrecy with a talented cast, that includes SAFTA winner Nambitha Mpumlwana.

Mampho was drawn to Zam’s character because of her intriguing backstory and further stated that Zam’s lifestyle creates a complex character that raises questions about her past and career choices.

“Zam’s way of life gives for a really rich character because you then wonder why? What happened to her? Why would she decide to embark on such an interesting career line? But you then come to realise that she’s a woman who’s found herself in a world that has been controlled by men and so she is asserting her femininity and her role as someone that’s powerful and won’t be controlled.”

This role marks Mampho’s return to the screen after wrapping her performance as Iris Zungu on Isibaya. “I’m so excited about being on the small screen again and connecting with the South African audience,” she shares. “I’m also excited that Soft Life is on Showmax because it represents Africa and our nation’s diversity.”

Soft Life was created by Vusi Zion for Afriprime and produced by Urban Brew Studios. The 13-episode drama is directed by SAFTA winners Nozipho Nkelemba and Nthabiseng Mokoena.
