Mamelodi Sundowns fans remember Manqoba Mngqithi amid CAF defeat

While coming to terms with the disappointing results of the highly anticipated CAF Champions League against Egypt’s Pyramids FC, Mamelodi Sundowns cannot help but think of former coach Manqoba Mngqithi, whom they believe might’ve led Masandawana to a different result.

Over the last few years, Mamelodi Sundowns have become one of Mzansi’s best performing teams, and their highly decorated trophy cupboard that holds almost any local football silverware imaginable to man. With the help of the deep pockets of their owner, Patrice Motsepe, the organisation has put together quite the squad, consisting of different weapons and technical precision that is on display night in and night out.

Not too long ago, the Brazilians claimed their eighth straight Premier Soccer League (PSL) title after clinching a 2-0 victory over Magesi United, cementing their place as one of the most dangerous teams to face in Betway’s league. Recently, coach Miguel Cardoso’s squad took to one of Africa’s biggest football stages in the CAF Champions League tournament to face off against Pyramids FC.

Unfortunately, unlike what we have become used to, Masandawana failed to secure their second star as they suffered a 2-1 loss against the Egyptian side.

As Sundowns fans attempt to come to terms with losing out on a momentous achievement, and deliberate on what went wrong for their team, some cannot help but remember the unfortunate story of former coach Manqoba, who coach Miguel took the reins from. These fans highlight their club’s hypocrisy of letting Manqoba go, mainly on the basis of failing to secure the CAF Champions League title, while not holding coach Miguel to the same standard so far.

Furthermore, some of these fans have boldly come out to claim that they believe that, unlike coach Miguel, the Golden Arrows head coach would have led the Pretoria-based club to a victory over Pyramids FC, securing their second CAF star, and further making a case as the most dominant team in the country.

@Masandawana I’m expecting Breaking News from you

Manqoba was fired for losing a Cup Final , I’m definitely expecting something similar from this one who lost a CAF champions league Final that’s played home and away

Do the right thing
