It has been just over a year since South African sports super fan Joy Chauke officially rose to national prominence following her trip to France to support the Springboks.
While this trip abroad was merely to show love to our men in green and gold, little did Mama Joy know that love would be the one thing she would find as she soon met the love of her life Nicolas Pitaud, a Frenchman now referred to as Papa Joy. Once the love bug bit her, she never looked back.
A lot has happened ever since, from tours to various parts of South Africa and France, later getting engaged, to now having officially tied the knot in a traditional wedding ceremony, many of which have all been well documented on her social media platforms.
In a recent interview with news and entertainment publication, BrieflyNews, Joy for the first time revealed the details of how the two first met.
According to the sports super fan, the two met on a train while en route to one of the Springbok matches.
Joy revealed that she had bought the wrong train ticket to attend the match, and needed to turn back to have it rectified. In the absence of her friends, this was when they crossed paths.
“I was with three people, we were supposed to go together, but at the end of the day, my ticket was different from theirs. So they left without me because I wanted to go and rectify my ticket problem. I took another train to (the stadium) and that was when I met him.”
The two have been an internet sensation ever since. After tying the knot in South Africa, Nicolas has however returned to his country of birth as the two continue their long-distance relationship.
