Mama Joy club-less following Royal AM PSL exit

by Sergio Miller

Where to now for Joy Chauke? One of the sport’s biggest fanatics, Mama Joy, is on the brink of being without a club. This comes as her team, Royal AM, will soon be leaving the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

It’s been a difficult few months for the team to do the black and gold, as continuous financial woes have left them facing several setbacks. Recently, the club owner, Shawn Mkhize, has had to let her assets be seized following a R40 million tax evasion.

While Joy, a prominent personality in local sports, has previously highlighted that while the future of the club remains uncertain, she would never betray the organisation by returning to her former club Orlando Pirates.

In a previous interview with KickOff, she said: “I didn’t start following the club for money, I wanted change. People might claim the custard is finished at Royal AM, but I won’t go back to Pirates. I am still 100% committed to Thwihli Thwahla.”

But while the “custard” now definitely looks finished, it is yet to be determined what her next move will be.

She has since taken to X (formerly Twitter), highlighting that while her heart was broken, her husband was doing an excellent job at helping her keep things together.

Meanwhile, fans have since shared a letter in which they showed their support to the club owner, Shawn Mkhize.

In the post, they reflected on the success of the team and offered her their support as she attempted to deal with the loss of her hard work.
