Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi has received a stern warning to stop disrespecting court proceedings.
The 27-year-old has been in the spotlight since last year, and ironically, this time not for his on-field performances with the Soweto-based football club. Instead, it has been for child maintenance troubles.
Earlier this year, he made headlines when he was summoned to court by two of his alleged baby mamas. They accused the prominent footballer of failing to fulfill his parental duties by paying child maintenance.
Melusi was scheduled to be in court on two separate occasions. In January, he failed to make his first appearance and sent his legal representative instead, while later again showed a lack of interest after failing to pitch at their second court hearing in March.
At the time, one of his exes expressed disappointment in his actions.
Speaking to the news publication TshisaLive at the time, she said: “Melusi’s actions towards this matter are unfortunate. They demonstrate a complete disregard for the court and its directives. However, the matter is before the court and I am confident the outcome will be in the best interests of the child.”
Meanwhile, the court’s patience has since run out for the goalkeeper.
According to the above-mentioned publication, he recently returned to court where he tried to slither his way out of another court date. However, the magistrate was not happy with him.
In a video obtained by the above-mentioned source, the magistrate gave him a stern warning to stop wasting the court’s time. This comes after he recently arrived late for their scheduled appointment.
“You need to stop making excuses. You were ordered to be in this court at 8.30am and now we had to wait for you, so everybody must wait for you and our lives need to stand still because of you. So why do you think you’re special? I think you need to apologise because our lives had to stand still because of you.”
It is said that his next court hearing will take place on 4 August.
