The Mangaung African Cultural Festival (MACUFE) is an annual showcase of African arts, culture and various sports disciplines that takes place in Bloemfontein. Mzantsi’s biggest names are often called upon for entertainment, however, this year’s edition saw a sour end after Oscar Mbo ended Makhadzi’s set earlier than scheduled.

After her set was cut short after performing for only 20 minutes, Makhadzi took to her Facebook to profusely apologise to her supporters for the short performance, citing that fellow artist, Oscar Mbo, removed her USB, preventing her from finishing her set up as per the schedule.

Following Makhadzi’s post, both artists hopped on a call to attempt to iron out what really happened and what caused Oscar to disrespect Makhadzi in this way. It was then revealed that due to Makhadzi arriving late, the stage manager made changes to the schedule, which involved Oscar Mbo and Makhadzi sharing a time slot. It appears that there was some miscommunication, as Oscar’s team was seemingly not aware of the changes that were made, resulting in Makhadzi’s performance being cut short.

Throughout this ordeal, Oscar has been fighting tooth and nail for Makhadzi to clear his name, as the incident has garnered a mob of hate directed towards Oscar. The ‘Horns in the Sun’ hitmaker has been involved in a few scandals where he was painted as a villain, gaining him a less than favourable reputation. He emphasises the need for himself and Makhadzi to direct their anger at the appropriate people.

“I feel like by you not doing anything, by not saying anything, you put me under the bus,” Oscar said to Makhadzi, referring to Makhadzi clearing the air about what transpired.

The public seems to be split in two with this situation as some users have defended Oscar, citing Makhadzi’s weaponisation of her ‘victimhood’ that she’s popular for.

Oscar Mbo strikes me as a very unproblematic guy.

Makhadzi on the other hand always has issues with everyone and she has mastered the art of attaining public empathy, especially from us Limpopians.

She’s good with victimhood

Other users have condemned Oscar’s actions, claiming that the producer’s head might be getting a bit too big, after the producer made headlines for a similar incident where he forcefully removed Limpopo singer Karishma mid-performance.

We are sick and tired of oscar mbo as a country
