MacG Set to Take Gender Sensitisation Training Amid Legal Battle with Minnie Dlamini
Popular podcaster MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho has signalled his willingness to undergo gender sensitisation training after controversial remarks about TV personality Minnie Dlamini sparked public outrage and a legal complaint.
The complaint, filed by Dlamini at the Johannesburg Equality Court, stems from comments made on an episode of “Podcast and Chill” in April, in which MacG and co-host Sol Phenduka discussed Dlamini’s breakup with Dr Brian Monaisa.

Comments Spark Backlash
During the episode, MacG suggested that Dlamini’s relationships were motivated by financial gain and made a crude remark regarding her personal hygiene. These statements were widely perceived as misogynistic and slut-shaming, prompting criticism from fans, celebrities, and women’s rights groups alike.
On social media, many users condemned the comments:
“Vile and unacceptable. No one should be dragged like this in public,” wrote one Twitter user.
Dlamini described the experience as deeply humiliating, saying her “name, body and dignity had been dragged through the mud” and calling the comments “vile, humiliating, and inexcusable.”
Equality Court Complaint
In August 2025, Dlamini formally lodged a complaint seeking:
-
A public apology from MacG and Phenduka
-
A R1.5 million donation to support GBV survivors
-
50 hours of gender sensitisation training for both hosts
MacG’s Response
In an affidavit submitted in October, MacG acknowledged that he sometimes errs on the podcast and expressed regret for his statements, describing them as “speculations” rather than factual claims.
He offered to improve his apology to Dlamini’s satisfaction and agreed to participate in gender sensitisation training if mandated by the court.
However, MacG contested the request for a R1.5 million donation, suggesting that any financial remedy should be pursued in civil court instead of the Equality Court.
“If she considers the episode defamatory, she can approach civil court for an appropriate remedy,” MacG stated.
Potential Wider Impact
The case has drawn attention for its potential precedent: if the Equality Court rules in favour of Dlamini, it could establish a framework for mandatory gender sensitisation training for media figures who make discriminatory or harmful remarks.
Legal analysts note that such a ruling could reshape accountability in South Africa’s media industry, especially for podcasts and social media personalities who often push boundaries for shock value or ratings.
Public Reaction and Cultural Context
Public responses have been mixed. While many applaud the push for gender accountability, others argue that podcasts should remain spaces for open dialogue, even if controversial.
Women’s rights groups see the case as an opportunity to combat misogyny in media, emphasizing the role of public figures in shaping societal attitudes toward gender respect and equality.
The Equality Court ruling is expected soon, and it will likely have implications beyond MacG and Dlamini, potentially prompting media houses and influencers to engage in formal gender sensitisation initiatives.
In the meantime, MacG’s willingness to participate in training is being seen as a step toward acknowledging harm and fostering greater awareness about gender sensitivity in South African media.
