South African actress Mabontle Nkwe, known for her role in e.tv’s drama series Isiphetho-Destiny, is carving out a name for herself in the South African entertainment industry, away from her father’s celebrated legacy in kwaito music.

As the daughter of Jairus Ditshotlo Nkwe, a prominent member of the iconic Kwaito group The Trompies, Mabontle’s journey into acting reflects her passion and dedication to the arts.

In a recent interview with TshisaLIVE, Mabontle reflected on her early involvement in the arts during her school years, where she excelled in activities like choir, and winning numerous competitions.

“I was also part of the choir of which we won many competitions. I guess this runs in the family as my father is also good at acting,” she said.

Currently, Mabontle plays a role in Isiphetho-Destiny, showcasing her talent and versatility in the television industry. She also gained valuable experience as a background actress on Generations: The Legacy, acknowledging the perseverance required to pursue a career in acting.

Mabontle acknowledges her father’s influence in the entertainment industry but is determined to forge her own path and create her legacy. She states the importance of continuous learning and gaining new skills to achieve her goals as an actress, aiming to shine independently of her father’s spotlight.

“My father has made his mark in the entertainment industry. Now I’ve got a chance to make my mark. I won’t shine in his spotlight. Every day I have to learn something new so I can have a clear vision of my goal as an actress.”
