Lynn Forbes, mother to late rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes found herself having to address social media users on Kairo’s decision to perform her late father’s song at the Joburg Day concert, the past weekend.

Kairo performed AKA’s song Company in front of a packed crowd, later joined on stage by AKA’s father Tony Forbes, the late rapper’s girlfriend Nadia Nakai.

After seeing the performance, social media users shared their feelings on the decision to allow Kairo to perform.

While many felt Kairo’s performance was a cute, commanding her of her bravery, some voiced out their disappointment in the family’s decision to allow her to sing.

In a series of tweets Lynn addressed the talks around the performance stating

“Kairo didn’t say, “ I WANT to perform at Joburg Day”. She said, “ I’m GOING TO perform at Joburg Day. I don’t want anyone to go on stage with me. I’m going to sing my daddy’s voice, by myself.” It sat well with her, She cried. She is very proud of herself. No one forced her.”

User @NubianBella_Don responded to Lynn, adding:

We are never gonna agree on this one my friend, so let’s agree to disagree. She’s only 8 I don’t believe she walked up to them and said “hey…. I want to perform at joburg day”, so regardless it will never sit well with me and that’s just me.

Lynn also took time to address social media conversations that came after Kairo’s Metro FM Music Awards outfit became a topic of discussion. She commented:

“Also, Kairo chose her own outfit for the Metro Awards … she loved the look ?and she doesn’t care what we think ??.”
