Gospel star, Lusanda Mcinga, reportedly stays in bed and can barely walk, leading to her needing an urgent spine surgery.
Lusanda who is also the mother of award-winning gospel artist, Betusile Mcinga became a household name for her iconic voice and her guitar sounds on songs such as Bathi Bayamazi, Intsikelelo, Sobonan’ Emathuneni and many others.
The Lusanda Mcinga Spiritual Group leader told Daily Sun that she is still waiting for a surgery date from the doctors, since her MRI in 2021, and there are suspicions that her results may have changed over the years.
Detailing how her spine issues affect her life, the 61-year-old said to the publication: “I’m not okay. I have pain in my back, waist and neck. My back has about four or five bones with no cartilage. They need to operate on. Two discs need to be repaired in my neck. The only thing that’s okay is my voice. It’s not impacted. I still go where I’m booked. The difference is I sit down, I can’t sing while standing,” she said.
Lusanda told the publication that she lives on painkillers to numb the pain, and they make her sleep. However, when she wakes up, she needs to take another pill because the pain comes back.
Like many artists, Lusanda hit rock bottom during the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to her losing her luxury cars. Not so long ago, the gospel icon opened up and asked for donations to record her album; her clip was shared widely on social media platforms, with some ridiculing her plea. She revealed recently during her interview with the above-mentioned news publication that she was sceptical about asking for donations again because people made fun of her the last time.
“I was once insulted by the public when I asked for donations to record my album. So I don’t want to ask for assistance.”
