Khabonina Qubeka and Bahumi Mhlongo have teamed up to lead a star-studded cast in the latest must-watch local film to hit the streets. As of 26 September 2025, Loved Out officially hit the theatres for enthusiasts of all ages to enjoy.
Joining forces, Tenye Creates and Nidani Studios brought together a fierce female-led cast to portray a genre-bending film that is nothing like we’ve seen before. From the storyline to the next level storytelling and production, this film will have you captivated from the opening credits all the way to the closing.
Set in modern South Africa, where style meets culture and everything else under the sun, Loved Out is a beautifully chaotic, authentically South African story filled with a myriad of underlying themes. From the dangers of religion to highlighting the importance of not settling and following one’s dreams, as well as setting and enforcing boundaries, the film has a lesson for every viewer, despite the varying life experiences.
Viewers can expect to see familiar faces such as Khabonina Qubeka, who portrays Gloria, the character you love to hate, and mother to the main protagonist, Ruva, who is played by Bahumi Mhlongo.
Tumi Morake embodies the role of Mai D, and the upcoming star Ayakha Ntunja plays Vazu, the superstar.
The unfiltered dramedy follows Ruva’s journey where she goes from a brilliant high school leaner, to a somewhat troubled adult who has found herself asking how she ended up where she questions her life decisons. Like plenty of adults, Ruva not only grapples with not living up to her potential, but also settling in certain aspects of her life. In true South African fashion, and on top of all her personal issues, Ruva also deals with her alcoholic mother with a knack for making the wrong decisions and affiliating with the wrong crowd.
When her mother’s questionable decisions finally catch up with her, Ruva finds herself having to go to great lengths to play hero to her Gloria.
” Loved Out is for anyone who has ever questioned if they matter, anyone who has hustled while pretending to have it all together. It’s about what keeps us going when life gets nuts: love, laughter, and refusing to be edited out,” says the film’s trade of all trades; Writer/Director/Producer, Tendayi Nyeke.
