It appears that ordinary South Africans are not the only people in dire need of living in a better South Africa – so are our local celebrities.
This past weekend multi-award-winning singer Lerato “Lira” Molapo has taken to the stage in what was only her second public performance following her recovery from a stroke.
The singer took the stage at the Baseline Festival over the weekend where she urged locals to make voting their number one priority this year.
The event took place at Constitution Hill in honour of Africa Day.
Here number of well-known musicians performed alongside the singer which ensured that fans never ran out of entertainment.
Reputable news publication The Sowetan reported that it was not until Lira entered the stage that fans went into another level of hysteria.
There was so much support from the crowd that it had the Feel Good singer in tears.
In response to the warm embrace, Lira said:
“I never intended to cry tonight, but it’s so wonderful to perform in front of you guys. It blows my mind. I’m still in a state of recovery, but that’s where I am now.
It’s a miracle… I never thought I’d be singing so soon. I want to thank all of you guys for taking the time, I love you.”
Just before leaving the stage the singer performed a song from her 2016, Born Free album where she encouraged fans to be the change they wished to see by voting.
In her performance of Be About It, she sang the lyrics “A beautiful world in critical times / A turning point for all mankind/ What you gonna do about what surrounds you?”
Earlier this year there was social media speculation that the singer was endorsing the MK party, after a social media post circulated resembling a woman who looked just like her in the party colours.
She later denied the rumours.
