South Africa’s most loved actor and comedian Leon Schuster has recently been candid about his fears ahead of his operation.

For years the actor has been viewed as one of the nation’s most valuable gems due to his ability to fill us with laughter with his unique comedy pranks. Although the love South Africans have for him has not changed one bit, as a result of multiple challenges, Leon is unfortunately not in the peak condition many are used to seeing him in.

In a recent interview with lifestyle publication, YOU Magazine the 72-year-old found himself bed ridden due to several injuries and medical operations that took place in recent times.

It is reported that the actor underwent his first surgery in August 2023 after falling from a van and injuring himself while on set, filming for Mr Bones 3.

The road to recovery thereafter, appeared to be far from easy and he later had sessions with a physiotherapist, where he learned to walk again.

While it’s been 10 months since that operation, he told YOU that things went from bad to worse as he suffered another setback after falling yet again.

“I got up, wet my pants, stepped in the urine and fell on my back. Then I felt tremendous pain.”

He described the pain as being so severe that it felt as if they cut his back off and gave the bones to the dogs.

“I just lay and screamed.”

After returning to hospital, doctor revealed that he had vertebrae damage, resulting in a second operation.

“I’m not in a good place, but I’m in a grateful place. And that’s why I lay here in a straight position and keep my spirits up with a bit of light heartedness,” he explained.

The Mama Jack actor explained he now has to undergo yet another operation but needs to lose at least 15kgs to avoid complications.

“It’s a very delicate operation and if any mistake is made, it can have severe consequences. Now I lay awake worrying whether I’ll survive, whether I’ll make it,” he said.
