Learner’s hope of having Tyla as matric ball partner very much alive

by Sergio Miller

The annual matric ball season is now fast approaching, and thousands of high school seniors are now hoping to put their best foot forward and impress their fellow pupils.

While matric farewell dance evening often involves arriving with the most extravagant sports cars, and jaw dropping arrivals and the cleanest fashion statements – one learner is hoping that 2025 will be a year he will forever remember as he plans to make his arrival with none other than the Grammy Award-winning pop star – Tyla.

If you are familiar with the social media platform TikTok, there might be a good chance that you have stumbled across Mollwane Madiba.

The grade 12 student has been setting social media abuzz after requesting to have the “pretty girl from Joburg” accompany him to the dance.

Speaking to 5FM, he said that the concept began when his friends enquired about who he would be taking to the dance.

“I’ve been a Tyla supporter for a while, and my friends know I love Tyla.”

Over the last few months this has resulted in thousands of social media followers rallying behind him in hopes of having the singer notice his request. His Mollwane’s reach has since stretched as far as the United States where educators have urged the 23-year-old pop star to accompany him through the #Mollwane and Tyla for MD online petition.
