The renowned content creator and media personality Lasizwe Dambuza has found himself at the centre of controversy.
This comes at a time when the national sporting body, Netball South Africa, has found itself in the hot seat of suspicions of corruption. This past week, members of parliament demanded answers from Netball SA regarding the unclear transactions and missing funds following the 2023 Netball World Cup, which was held in South Africa.
With the organisation unable to provide answers to the questions raised in parliament, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee, Joseph Job McGluwa, has given them 14 days to come up with a proper explanation starting from 1 May.
Meanwhile, Lasizwe has not been involved in the controversy, as it was reported that the 27-year-old had received R120 000 from Netball South Africa in connection with the prestigious tournament.
With this now creating social media backlash, Lasizwe has since provided clarity to the situation, highlighting that he was not paid by the organisation, but rather that he was contracted by Telkom, the sponsor of Netball SA, news publication Sunday World reports.
Speaking to the above-mentioned publication, he stated: “I am not affiliated with Netball South Africa in any capacity. And therefore, the allegations regarding the Netball SA sponsorship are incorrect.”
He later continued, “My involvement is strictly tied to Telkom’s marketing initiatives. And it does not extend to any activities with Netball South Africa.”
Meanwhile, Netball SA president Cecilia Molokwane has since been suspended on allegations of maladministration.
