The renowned South African group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, is ready to take listeners on a musical escape as they gear up for the long-awaited celebration of their 65th year in music.
The group has been part of South Africa’s history across six decades, experiencing both the highs and lows while producing several chart-topping hits like Hala South Africa and Homeless, all of which have also earned them a special place in the hearts of many.
After years of continuous support, they are back and ready to take fans along on their 65th year of musical celebrations.
The group recently wrapped up their tour of the US and is eager to bring back their soulful sounds while promising to introduce and perform many more unreleased songs.
In a recent interview with news and entertainment publication TshisaLIVE, the band leader Sibongiseni Shabalala opened up about how the group has managed to keep on reinventing itself to ensure that they adapt to the times.
Speaking on the topic he said: “The music has evolved in so many ways; it has been able to reach many people in the world thanks to the collaboration with Paul Simon on the Graceland [album] and many other famous musicians that the group has collaborated with over their years such as Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson, Desree, Hugh Masekela and many, many more.”
He added that the relevant song compositions that their father wrote over the years have helped them to evolve their sound.
The group is set to perform at Joburg Theatre from May 1 to 4 and thereafter will continue with their national tour visiting Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria.
