Kim Kardashian Wants a Million-Dollar Necklace and Mzansi Can’t Stop Talking About Her Met Gala Chaos

by Zaghrah Anthony

A playful flex, a dramatic prep moment, and a 12-year-old who might be the most honest person in Hollywood.

Kim Kardashian has never been the shy type, but even long-time Kardashian watchers were caught off guard when she jokingly asked Hulu and Disney to buy her a $20 million (R343 million) diamond necklace as a “thank you” for having the No. 1 reality show on the platform.

The moment, captured in the latest episode of The Kardashians, left fans doing double-takes, laughing, and rolling eyes in equal measure. If anyone can turn a Met Gala accessory into a corporate request, it’s Kim.

The Met Gala Look That Set It All Off

For the 2025 Met Gala, Kim arrived in a look that can best be described as luxury pirate meets rock-star heiress. She wore a crocodile-leather two-piece by Chrome Hearts, with pearls hanging from her waist and a matching leather hat — a combination that lit up social media.

But the star of the outfit wasn’t even the leather, the pearls, or the drama.

It was the diamond necklace, the same piece she casually suggested Hulu should buy her.

“Hulu, Disney, will you buy it for me? For having the No. 1 show?
That necklace? It’s a deal. It’s really a deal,” she joked.

Mzansi Twitter (X) wasn’t ready.
People joked that if they tried this at work, HR would schedule an emergency meeting.

North West: The Unfiltered MVP of the Episode

While Kim was spiraling behind the scenes because her outfit wasn’t coming together as planned, her 12-year-old daughter, North West, stepped in with the kind of blunt honesty only kids or best friends usually deliver.

In the episode, North, calm, unfazed, and accidentally iconic — told her mother:

“What’s the worst that could happen? People hate on your outfit?
They do that every year.”

South Africans immediately recognised the energy.
It’s the exact tone your cousin uses when you want to cancel a family gathering because your hair didn’t come out right.

North wasn’t being rude; she was being Kanye-level confident, offering emotional support with just the slightest bit of shade. Social media agreed: North stole the entire episode.

Behind the Glamour: A Moment of Real Pressure

The episode also gave viewers a peek at the emotional weight Kim carries as one of the most talked-about women on the planet.
She admitted to Scott Disick:

“Sometimes I just feel like snapping, but I can’t.”

A producer then referenced that her “ex is very loud out there,” clearly pointing to Kanye West’s public antics. Kim simply said she chooses not to engage — not for drama, but for peace.

She also pushed back at speculation that she’s restricting Kanye’s access to their children, hinting she’s tired of narratives painting her as the villain.

Why This Moment Hit Differently

Kardashians asking for expensive things isn’t new — the family practically built the “soft life” aesthetic before it had a name. But this time felt more self-aware, almost like Kim was laughing at the absurdity of her own celebrity.

In a world where most people are budgeting for Black Friday deals, her million-dollar necklace request landed like a wink at the audience. She knows it’s outrageous. That’s the point.

And with Kris Jenner running the empire like a Swiss watch, it’s hard to tell whether Kim was joking… or just half-joking.

Public Reaction: A Mix of Laughter, Side-Eye, and Admiration

Online reactions were peak entertainment:

  • Some fans said, “If I tried this at work, I’d be unemployed by lunch.”

  • Others defended her, reminding everyone she’s built a brand worth billions.

  • And many simply lived for North’s commentary, declaring her the “real star” of the Kardashian universe.

South Africans especially leaned into the humour:
“One day I’ll have Kim-level confidence to ask my boss for R343 million. Not today, but one day.”

A Wink, a Necklace, and a Family That Knows Its Power

Kim Kardashian’s playful demand wasn’t about the diamonds, it was about the moment, the audacity, and the self-awareness that keeps the Kardashian machine interesting after nearly two decades in the spotlight.

Whether Hulu buys the necklace or not (spoiler: they won’t), the story is already priceless.
