Award-winning radio broadcaster Khutso Theledi recently made history after becoming the first-ever female MC at this year’s Soweto Derby, and it is safe to say which team she was rooting for.

The Soweto Derby sees a match between rival Premier Soccer League’s Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. At this year’s event – MC’d by Khutso and radio and TV personality Melody Miya – it was Orlando Pirates who won 3-2 against AmaKhosi.

Taking to Instagram, Khutso reflected on her time at the Soweto Derby, starting by showing gratuity to her fellow co-MC.

“Your guiding hand as we MC’d the Soweto Derby together, marking a powerful shift in our lives by stepping into something new together, was more than a moment; it was a blessing in my life’s trajectory.”

The Metro FM radio host then shared, “As the first female co-MC, I am blessed to stand at the helm of history, gazing out onto the grand FNB Stadium – a sea of eager fans awaiting the clash between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. The energy was electric, but in that sea of emotions, I found my voice, my purpose, and my power through support from each and every single person who believed in me more than I did in myself. It was a whirlwind of emotions – the thrill, the terror, and the undeniable presence of God!”

Noting the day as “life-changing,” Khutso stated that she was also humbled after receiving a “powerful message” from the winning team:

“Their words were not just accolades; they were a resounding affirmation of this pivotal moment. ‘Khutso Theledi. The first-ever female MC of Orlando Pirates, The first-ever female Soweto Derby MC.’ Their words carried the weight of history. Breaking barriers and shattering stereotypes.”
