Khuli Chana set to drop a documentary honouring past legends

by Sergio Miller

Award-winning artist Khuli Chana and music boss Refiloe Ramogase are set to drop a new project that will soon have hip-hop music fans all around the country excited with their upcoming documentary called Maftown Heights Untold Stories.

The documentary is focused on the rise of one of the country’s fastest-growing music festivals which has been the foundation for many upcoming artists who are now well established in the music industry.

According to entertainment publication Daily Sun the four-part series has been in progress since 2020.

While a large part of the series will take viewers behind the scenes of all the processes that go into organising the festival, the second episode will also honour a list of entertainers whose careers have been propelled after being granted an opportunity to make appearances at the event.

The list of exclusive interviews includes artists like Cassper Nyovest, KO, the late Riky Rick as well as the slain rapper AKA.

Touching on what this means to him, Refiloe said: “We aim to honour the legacy of the artists who have inspired a generation, some of whom are no longer with us, and to provide a platform for their voices to be heard in an authentic and compelling manner.”

Meanwhile, Khuli also highlighted that it was more than just a stage for him, but that it felt like a homecoming and a place where the roots of his music and journey are celebrated.

“It’s an honour to present the Maftown Heights Untold Stories. This documentary is a celebration of the incredible talent, passion, and community that defines Maftown Heights,” Khuli said.

The documentary premieres on Saturday, 15 June at 4pm on Channel O.
