Khuli Chana allegedly owes R1 million in taxes

by Johana Mukandila

South African rapper Khulane Morule, better know as Khuli Chana, reportedly owes the South African Revenue Service over R1.1 million in unpaid taxes, Sunday World reports.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) applied for judgment against the One Source hitmaker at the high court in Johannesburg last week.

According to court papers seen by the publication, Khuli Chana’s company, Khuli Chana Holdings, allegedly owes the revenue service more than R426 000 for value-added tax (VAT), however, it has increased to over R615 000.

After the amount increased to R30 000 in penalties was imposed on his owing amount, over R160 000 in interest was added.

The star also allegedly owes the taxman over R30 000 in unpaid Pay As You Earn (PAYE). The amount went on to increase to over R445 000 after SARS imposed another R11 000 penalty and R135 000 interest.

His company also owes the taxman at least R19 000 in unemployment insurance funds, more than R6 000 incurred in interest, and over R1 000 in penalties.

However, in the backdrop of the news, the rapper is yet to address the daring allegations that have thrust him into the spotlight.

Sadly, the rapper is not the only one to make headlines for all the wrong reasons as The Real Housewives of Durban star Ayanda Ncwane had to deal with her late husband’s tax debt. The TV personality’s late husband allegedly owed R2 million.

The news of the South Africa rapper led to tweeps having mixed reactions with many peeps confused as to how one owes tax.

Here is what tweeps had to say:

Maybe I don’t have money but how do u owe UIF?

Our celebrities should learn to pay SARS before anything else…Hope Chana will pay what is due to SARS
