Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema maintained that the gun discharged during the EFF’s fifth anniversary celebrations at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in 2018 was a toy; during his cross-examination at the East London Magistrates Court.
According to The Citizen, Julius was allegedly caught on camera firing what appeared to be an automatic assault rifle. Both Julius and his co-accused Adriaan Snyman have pleaded not guilty.
The state accused the EFF leader of avoiding direct questions during his cross-examination. He maintained his innocence, arguing that he was wrongly accused and stating that the gun was a toy, requiring no license or permission to use.
JacarandaFM states that he criticised the prosecution for attempting to ruin his reputation and career.
“You brought me wrongly here – either you want to build your career using my name and destroy the future of my children and my wife. I possess a toy. It requires no license. You brought me here for six years for no issue. I am not being disrespectful. I am being honest.”
“No one can associate me with any wrongdoing. I cannot regret having done nothing wrong. I possessed a toy, and it requires nobody’s permission for me to use it at any time.”
The court has postponed the public firearm discharge case against Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema to November 1 for closing arguments.
