Jozi FM station manager Tshepo Junior Makgopa is currently awaiting trial for allegedly assaulting a woman.

These assault allegations were brought by Rose Buthelezi, a friend of his wife. The incident allegedly occurred in late January following a night out that turned violent making Rose file a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at the Protea Glen police station.

Tshepo appeared in court on 10 June, where the matter was postponed to 17 July for the commencement of his trial.

In an interview with Sunday World, Rose detailed the events leading up to the assault. She recounted that the altercation began when her boyfriend, Prince Tshabalala asked a friend for payment owed for a gig.

It is stated that the presenter reportedly intervened aggressively, leading Rose to step in, according to Rose, Tshepo directed verbal abuse towards her and escalated to physical violence.

“The argument started when my boyfriend asked another one of our friends, Paul, for his money for an unpaid gig, Tshepo interfered in the conversation and started swearing at my boyfriend, saying he was broke and was causing fights,” Rose explained.

She described a scene where Tshepo allegedly pulled his wife from a car and proceeded to assault her. When Rose attempted to intervene, she claims Tshepo turned his aggression towards her, punching her repeatedly and causing significant physical harm.

“So we were using my car, and on our way, his wife asked him why he interfered during the conversation between my boyfriend and Paul because if he had not, we would still be having fun. He started swearing at his wife.”

“I got out of the car to try to stop and speak to him. That is when he started hitting me, He punched me in the face and hit me everywhere. It felt like he was hitting a dog,” She said.

Despite the case of the allegations and the legal proceedings initiated against him, Tshepo has continued in his role as station manager at Jozi FM.
