Johannesburg EMS warns about the dangers of inhaling fire extinguisher chemicals

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Services have issued a stern warning against smoking or deliberately inhaling the contents of a fire extinguisher.

The warning was accompanied by an urge to the parents to educate their children about the dangers, and a video of school boys who were taking turns smoking the contents of a fire extinguisher.

“Smoking/deliberately inhaling the contents of a Fire Extinguisher is extremely dangerous. (It) can lead to serious health issues, including respiratory distress, seizures and potentially death. Parents are urged to educate their children about the dangers,” read the statement.

SABC News has shared a video of a Johannesburg EMS personnel condemning the act of smoking the contents of a fire extinguisher.
