The debate on the future of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune will forever be a talking point at this stage of his career.

Last week the former first-choice goal-stopper was honoured by his childhood club Kaizer Chiefs after reaching the monumental milestone of being part of the club for 25 years. His development in the structures of the team has been rapid, this saw him rising in the ranks as a formidable force, becoming a leader, mentor, and role model to many.

In what was their final home game of the season Itumeleng ended the game squeaky clean, without a single ball passing his net.

With the celebrations having passed, many believed that this marked the end of his journey with the club especially since it was reported that he was offered a coaching role in the team due to the overwhelming amount of experience he has behind his name.

However, with less than a few weeks left of his contract, he has yet to decide on accepting the offer, which led many to believe that he will depart permanently to join another club which some say would be Cape Town City.

The coach of Cape Town City, John Comitis, meanwhile shared that while any club would be lucky to have him in their locker rooms, he won’t be making the signing.

In an interview with the sports publication Soccer Laduma, he said: “We still have Darren Keet. We will persevere with Keet at the moment, we don’t need Khune right now.

“As I have said before, he is a good goalkeeper but for now, we are good with what we have and that’s Darren Keet for us,” he concluded.
