Multi-award-winning actress Brenda Ngxoli recently shared how she navigated playing the late icon, Brenda ‘MaBrr’ Fassie in a four-part documentary, Vulindlela.
The talented thespian portrays the role of Brenda in a SABC 1 series that shares Brenda’s troubles in the industry which led to her being written off, and her triumphant rebirth following the release of her massively successful album Vulindlela. This documentary series will feature interviews with colleagues, friends, family and industry insiders. It will also feature re-enactment scenes by some of Mzansi’s best actors.
Taking to her Instagram page, the former Home Affairs actress said it took her 13 months to prepare for this role. She shared that she went to gym, had weight loss drips and worked hard with her personal trainer, all while she was breastfeeding. Brenda also took dance and movement classes to help with the role.

She also shared that she stalked the Black President singer’s associates to help with her research as she was about to take on the role. She added that playing Brenda’s role made them become one, and that the late star’s tears became hers.

“Dearest Brenda Fassie. I gave it my all and still wish I could have done More! You gave us your all, and you deserve all the glory in the world. Even when the cameras were off, I could not stop crying and yet laughter and joy was had all round. Lord knows I had quit acting but the universe had other ideas. Your role brought me out of retirement. Thank you,” she penned.
