‘It is the most painful thing,’ Khaya Mthethwa opens up about divorce

by Sergio Miller

Experiencing a divorce is never an easy journey, especially when your life is constantly in the public eye, and for gospel singer Khaya Mthethwa, this was no different.

Just two years after tying the knot with former Miss South Africa Ntandoyenkosi Kunene in 2017, his marriage was flipped upside down when they decided to get a divorce. At the time, rumours swirled that the collapse of their marriage may have been a result of infidelity; however, these were merely allegations.

The renowned singer turned pastor recently spoke candidly about how he has managed to maintain his sanity during what may have been the most emotional challenge of his life.

In a recent interview with Podcast, Radio & Stuff, he described his divorce as one of the most painful things he has ever had to experience.

“I think that it is the most painful thing I have ever gone through in my life. I don’t wish divorce on anyone. In fact, I will never divorce again,” he said.

He explained that during this time, he found himself questioning everything and attempted to find solutions on how he would be able to rebuild himself after the ordeal.

“It’s been a huge journey of healing for me. Have I healed from it? I think that I have, because I am a person who is very structured. I am a black man who goes to therapy and I am proud of it.”

He believes that without systems like those, he would never have found the healing he has.

Meanwhile, he says that he still believes in love and aspires to one day get married again.
