Former convicted criminal and now Patriotic Alliance political party leader Gayton McKenzie sparked a lot of debate when he posted on his X formerly known as Twitter that Cape Town was the new Lagos.

The political leader who spent many years behind bars has been the voice of the poor, fighting for the rights of South Africans and getting undocumented foreigners who illegally cross into our boarder out of the country.

Taking to his X, Gayton shared:

“Cape Town is the new Lagos.”

Cape Town is the new Lagos

Upon seeing Gayton’s post, internet users reacted with mixed feelings,. Some expressed the same sentiments as the political leader while some cited that his obsession with foreigners was too much.

The Hate you have for Zimbabweans and Nigerians is Personal ๐Ÿ˜‚. There’s literally Thousands of Bangladeshis, Chinese, Europeans, Indians, Pakistanis Illegal in the Country but wena you’re stocking Xenophobic sentiments only for a select group cause you want trend and votes

More users shared that it’s not only some people from Africans neighboring countries who lived in the country illegally.

Undocumented Europeans are too much in CapeTown bro…deal with them too.

Another user who seemed to agree with Gayton mentioned areas in Cape Town that could be classified as Lagos, adding:

You must make it clear! Parklands & Table view! It’s nasty business. I don’t even want to talk about Bellville, that’s a whole country on its own๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ pic.twitter.com/NvcTnNvAmM

More shared that the City of Cape Town also employs Nigerians:

@CityofCT even employs Nigerians as tour guides. We blame EFF/ANC for opening borders forgetting white DA people who are giving them jobs and shelter

One more user added:

Besides foreigners…what else are you promising voters?
