South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has received tons of backlash following a recent video that went viral on social media.
The clip shows the leader of the ruling party addressing thousands of people at the public at the ANC manifesto launch held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal.
In his speech the president highlighted several milestone achievements that the country experienced over the past 30-years of being ruled by the ANC. He later gave credit to the party for being the reason why the music genre Amapiano became such a success both locally as well as on the international scene.
“Today, people in New York, Lagos, and Nigeria are dancing to Amapiano because of the doors that have been opened by this ANC government.”

This seemed to be enough to fuel an uproar from avid listeners of the genre. In response to these claims many took to the comment section claiming that the president is a liar for making such remarks.
Taking to the comment section of the clip some users wrote:
“When amapiano artists were struggling to get visas for international bookings the entire government was quiet! They actually don’t give a damn about Amapiano, arts and entertainment in general.”
Another pointed out that the only politician that truly showed support for the genre was EFF leader Julius Malema, “Juju Malema supported Amapiano artists,” the user added.
Meanwhile others found humour in the fact that the president made such statements when clearly nobody shared his sentiments.
A third person wrote: “I am not a piano fan, but nigga capping (slang for lying) for real.”
