Media personality Lerato Kganyago who is also a judge on Crown Chasers has caused an uproar on social media following her defense of Miss SA finalist Chidimma Adetshina amid public controversy.

According to the Instagram Live she shared with Somizi Mhlongo, Lerato saw the need to shield Chidimma after Sports, Arts and Culture Minister, Gayton McKenzie shared his views about the potential Miss SA.

On the live video, Lerato said “South Africans have found it easier to attack black women because we are weaker and we are seen as weaker, but also people that contribute are black women themselves.”

She continued to say that proper vetting, documentation, and research were received; she is South African. While on the live, she added that she was a bit disappointed by Gayton’s statement and also believes the minister’s last statement could put Chidimma’s life in danger.

“Very irresponsible of him as a minister to say something like that, he could have said, ‘I’m going to look into this as a minister,” she said.

Izindabazabantu took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the conversation between Lerato and Somizi.

Another user posed a question to Lerato on X.

Do you think Nigerians would accept a women called Lerato Kganyago with questionable citizenship to compete for Miss Nigeria? https://t.co/gPIwvOKwOJ

While another one said:

I love you but isn’t Miss SA all about flying the SA flag high first and foremost? Citizenship aside, there’s nothing South African about her. No SA flag on her socials, only the Nigerian & Mozambique(maternal) flags up there. They follow Nigerian culture, music etc in her house. pic.twitter.com/xid0Q1swng
