South African DJ and music producer Themba Mbongeni Nkosi professionally known as Euphonik caused a stir on the internet after saying the late rapper, AKA’s music career depended on the newlywed, Cassper Nyovest.

For the longest time, it has been alleged that Cassper Nyovest and AKA had a beef which continued until he died after being gunned down in Durban last year. During his memorial service, Cassper did however clear the air on how they both had a relationship behind closed doors.

Taking to X, an app formerly known as Twitter, Euphonik wrote, “No one really wants to hear the truth, but that entire generation of rappers, AKA included would be clutching at straws if there wasn’t a @casspernyovest.”

This post sparked a debate between the fans of the two artists, users shared their views, saying, “No if it wasn’t for My City – the transition to the mainstream wouldn’t have happened that easily, we got Cassper his first flight in his life to CPT to record with us, lots of us put in for him to be where it is but because we women it’s overlooked – that collab went to be the biggest and not once did he remember me when shit was popping bruh, every single.”

“Fill up they were singing my song at the stadiums when we were available and in the country – that shot hurt my career a lot – as a youngling that shit broke me – took me years to recover. Actually worst experience sadly, Best wishes. wish I had a different story.,” they added.

Other users disagreed:

Nah I disagree..people who shaped South African rappers were HHP and Pro

Cassper did nothing internationally. Started no movements like Cotton Fest or Back To The City. He found Joburg artists already made SA hip hop fashionable. He found the door of Motswako rappers already open. CPT already dominating underground. There is no generation he put on pic.twitter.com/yE3uAD9U4f

Unpopular opinion:

Cassper and AKA’s beef helped both of them stay relevant for as long as they were.
