Death always comes unexpectedly and leaves a lot of people torn apart.

Fans of the soccer club, Kaizer Chiefs have sympathised with the family of the team’s defender Luke Fleurs who passed on last night after being shot in a high jacking in the Florida region in Gauteng.

The 24-year-old defender joined Kaizer Chiefs in October last year. When the news broke, internet users took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their condolences to his family, friends and the team.

Other users shared their frustrations saying that with the high rate of crime in South Africa we are still going to lose a lot of young people.

One user wrote, “Heart breaking. Luke Fleurs has sadly passed away. Another young talent gone too soon because of crime in South Africa. RIP Luke (adding crying and broke heart emojis).”

Many other users said:

In a country where the government is useless & incompetent, this is what happens everyday. Kaizer Chiefs & SA has lost a very talented & technically good CB in Luke Fleurs. Rest easy king, that useless plumber at Lena denied us an opportunity to watch you in gold & black🕊️🕊️💔 pic.twitter.com/hg9M44wFcb

Just yesterday clever blacks out were defending criminals that are being killed by KZN SAPS and today we waking up to a young life lost in their hands. Criminals are terrorising us. They shouldn’t be in society. These bastards must meet their maker. May Luke Fleurs RIP🙏🏾🕊💔 pic.twitter.com/bbdE89T9PK
