Many South Africans are placing their faith in the national soccer team, Bafana Bafana, as they get ready for tonight’s AFCON match against Morocco.

Taking place in Ivory Coast this year, the start to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) was not too great for Bafana Bafana. The team lost 2-0 to Mali but gained some points in their second match against the neighbouring country of Namibia by winning 4-0. The third match against Tunisia saw a draw of zero.

Now, while the soccer team is getting ready for their upcoming Round of 16 match against the North African country of Morocco, many social media users on X (formerly Twitter) are showing their support, calling today Bafana Bafana Day.

Happy Bafana Bafana day. #AFCON2023

President Cyril Ramaphosa also shared a few words of positivity for the team.

“They are going to win, without any doubt,” said the president to the cameraperson before him. “I would like you to send them a good luck message from me, and tell them that I expect them to win. I am here with their super coach, the Minister [Zizi Kodwa], and the whole nation is behind them. We want them to play their hearts out and make sure that they win today. Once they win tonight, it basically means that they will be able to bring the cup home. So, good luck to the boys.”
