Social media recently went abuzz when interviews of two super talented young South African females who are based in USA, Thuso Mbedu and Tyla surfaced on the internet.

Actress Thuso Mbedu is currently living in America after making a name for herself in the Hollywood movie community featuring in movies such as Woman King and The Gaze.

Singer Tyla is a Grammy Award nominated singing sensation that has taken the world by storm after her successful single Water blew globally, taking her straight into the US Billboard top 10 charts.

After watching Thuso’s interview on the Ellen Degeneres Show where she spoke of a billboard of a movie she was featured on internet users unfairly compared her to Tyla who had an interview with Jennifer Hudson where she spoke with South African slang words such as Yhoo.

Internet users claimed that Tyla was speaking in her tone and accent while Thuso had adopted a new accent.

They shared:

Both South Africans ??
Both Interviewed in America ??
Completely Different Accents ?
Tyla – ?% Original.
Thuso – Fitting in with the rest.

Upon seeing the post on X formerly known as Twitter, social media users jumped in to comment, while some just spoke of how the loved Tyla’s Yhoo, some defended Thuso sharing that the comparison wasn’t necessary.

This conversation is very unnecessary and too nuanced for Twitter

Nothing more than annoying than paid promo Twitter, yeses!

Others added that the two ladies do not come from the same background and should not be expected to have the same accent:

Y’all act as if people are raised in the same area where they all speak in the same accent…

Trevor Noah is coloured but he doesn’t sound coloured

Sho Madjozi coloured but doesn’t really sound like Taylor

??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️ I mean it’s just common sense
