South African dance music star Makhadzi has opened up about her recovery after surviving a serious car accident on 31 December 2025, sharing an emotional video of her physiotherapy and a song she recorded during her healing journey.
According to official statements from her team, the Limpopo-born singer, whose real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, was involved in a crash while travelling from Limpopo to Johannesburg on New Year’s Eve.
In an Instagram post accompanying the physiotherapy video, Makhadzi said she had started treatment the previous day and felt “lonely” after the session, a moment that inspired her to record a new song.
She said that she came across an old beat in her music archive and channelled her emotions into lyrics focused on healing and resilience.

After her discharge, Makhadzi revealed that doctors advised she take a 10-week break from performing to focus on healing, though she intends to remain creatively active in the studio during that period.
She thanked her supporters and acknowledged the support.
Her team also shared that the accident occurred while the artist and her crew had stopped on the roadside to check on a strange noise when another vehicle struck her.
Though shaken, she was fortunate to survive and has been described as being in stable condition throughout her treatment.
